An Airalo, Holafly or Saily eSIM rides a Thai network: AIS, TrueMove H or dtac. Pick the network for the trip, then a plan that prints that name, not just a Thailand flag. Prices and the operator column sit on the Thailand comparison.
- North, hills, islands after the ferry, overnight train. AIS. Compare packs that write AIS.
- Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai city only. TrueMove H or dtac will do. Airalo, eSIM Card, BambooSIM on the same page.
- Thailand, then Vietnam, Cambodia or Malaysia. A Thailand pack plus a local one, or an Asia eSIM. Check which Thai partner the regional uses.
- Compatible phone. Take an eSIM rather than plastic as soon as the listing names the network. Check the model in the compatibility tool.
The QR code does not radiate in Bangkok. AIS, TrueMove H and dtac do. A travel eSIM is wholesale capacity glued onto one of those three radios. Between Sukhumvit and the pier after the ferry to Koh Tao, the local mast decides if Grab, Maps and translation hold. Not the app logo.
This ranks networks for a visitor, not a Thai subscriber. Showcase 5G speeds weigh less than a hole on an island or a northern pass. What “best mobile network in Thailand” means here
Opensignal does not hand out one overall winner. In summer 2026, AIS takes the most awards: consistent quality, upload, coverage, voice. dtac and TrueMove H share Best Network: reliability and download for dtac, 5G availability for TrueMove H, time on the combined network. For a traveller, that Siam 5G shop-window order is the wrong order.

1. AIS: the safety net outside Bangkok
AIS wins Coverage Experience (8.9/10) and 5G Coverage Experience (5.5). That is the first test if the stay leaves the Bangkok–Phuket–Pattaya triangle: Chiang Rai, Pai, islands after the ferry, overnight trains, beaches that Maps barely names. AIS also leads consistent quality (75.1%) and upload (15 Mbps, a third above TrueMove H).
For a visitor, AIS means fewer holes between stops. Not the smoothest TikTok in a Sukhumvit mall. eSIMs that name AIS are the default as soon as the stay is not 100% urban.
eSIM Card, BambooSIM, Roamless, GigSky and iRoamly often publish AIS. Airalo sometimes mixes AIS, TrueMove H and dtac on the same pack. That is not a forever contract. Read the plan page, not a 2024 blog.
2. TrueMove H: city and tourist-island 5G
TrueMove H has 5G on most often (90.2% of the time, 5G handset and plan). With dtac, True Corporation finished the “One Network” integration in 2025: more capacity, same radio base. Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai centre: TrueMove H is often the partner behind travel eSIMs.
Geographic coverage still trails AIS (8.6/10). A Bangkok rooftop weekend: TrueMove H. A northern loop plus a secondary island: AIS first.
In our Thailand comparison, TrueMove H is not rare. You see it on Airalo (often as a pair or trio), AbesteSIM (sometimes labelled Real Future / Truemove), AlpineSIM. The operator line on the plan you pay for beats the app brand.
3. dtac: download and jobs that finish
dtac wins reliability (907/1000) and download (41.1 Mbps, 0.3 Mbps ahead of AIS). 5G download sits with dtac (102.7 Mbps). Handy if you stream on the BTS or in a café whose Wi-Fi dies. Coverage in populated areas (8.6) sits next to TrueMove H: same group, same wide footprint.
Off the tourist map, eSIM listings name dtac less often than AIS, but eSIM Dog, VoyaSIM and some Roamify packs write it. Only hunt dtac on a tourist eSIM if the provider writes it.
Which eSIM brand sits on which Thailand network?
The shopfront is not the mast. Airalo, Holafly, Nomad, Saily, Ubigi, Yesim resell capacity. Orange Travel often routes as roaming: the sheet can say “Orange” without naming AIS. An “Asia” pack can land on a weaker radio in Thailand than a country plan.

Three Thailand itineraries, three network calls
Bangkok + Phuket, 7 days, 10 GB. Almost any serious 4G/5G pack holds. Take one that names AIS, TrueMove H or dtac, with hotspot if you share to a laptop. TrueMove H is enough. AIS does not hurt.
Chiang Mai + Pai + an island after the ferry. AIS first. An unlimited plan whose daily cap is not published in GB is a trap: after the throttle, TrueMove H 5G in town will not help on the pier.
Thailand then Vietnam. Compare a Thailand pack plus a small Vietnam one against a regional eSIM. Regional wins on simplicity, often loses on radio in Thailand. Measurable on both pages, not on a “12 countries” slogan.
How to filter AIS, TrueMove H or dtac on the Thailand eSIM table
- Operator column (AIS, TrueMove H, dtac) before price per GB.
- 5G and hotspot: unlimited without hotspot is a phone plan, not a laptop share.
- Activation: first attach in Thailand, or scan the QR at home. Install on Wi-Fi before Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang. Turn data roaming on the eSIM only.
- Apply the partner promo, then read the price you pay. Ignore the struck-through shopfront number.
