In short
An Airalo, Holafly or Ubigi eSIM rides a Swiss network: Swisscom, Sunrise or Salt. Pick the network for the trip, then a plan that prints that name, not just a Switzerland flag. Many Europe eSIMs skip Switzerland: read the country list. Prices and the operator column sit on the Switzerland comparison.
- Alps, valleys, night trains, Zermatt, Jungfrau. Swisscom. Compare packs that write Swisscom.
- Zurich, Geneva, Bern, Lausanne only. Sunrise or Salt will do. Airalo, Holafly, Saily on the same page.
- Switzerland then France, Italy or Germany. A Switzerland pack plus a local one, or a Europe eSIM if Switzerland is on the list. Otherwise two plans.
- Compatible phone. Take an eSIM rather than plastic as soon as the listing names the network. Check the model in the compatibility tool.
The QR code does not radiate in Zurich. Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt do. A travel eSIM is wholesale capacity glued onto one of those three radios. Between Geneva station and a Zermatt platform, the local mast decides if Maps, SBB Mobile and Twint hold. Not the app logo.
This ranks networks for a visitor, not a Swiss subscriber. Showcase 5G speeds weigh less than a hole in a valley. Distinctions come from Opensignal’s April 2026 report (1 January to 31 March). What “best mobile network in Switzerland” means here
Opensignal does not hand out one overall league table. In spring 2026, Swisscom takes Best Network. CHIP confirms the same order: Swisscom 1.04, Salt 1.12, Sunrise 1.13 (all “very good”, and all at the “excellent network” threshold). SpeedGeo, on a year of tests to 31 March 2026, measures average download at 145.8 Mbps for Swisscom, 108.5 for Salt, 97.0 for Sunrise. For a traveller, that Bahnhofstrasse 5G shop-window order is the wrong order.

1. Swisscom: the safety net outside Zurich
Swisscom wins Best Network at Opensignal and every CHIP 2026 category, including long-distance trains and 5G. That is the first test if the stay leaves the Zurich–Geneva–Lausanne triangle: Zermatt, Interlaken, Jungfrau, Graubünden, inner Ticino, the passes. SpeedGeo also puts Swisscom first on download (145.8 Mbps).
For a visitor, Swisscom means fewer holes between stations. Not the smoothest TikTok on Europaallee. eSIMs that name Swisscom are the default as soon as the stay is not 100% urban.
Ubigi, GigSky and some Nomad packs sometimes publish Swisscom. That is not a forever contract. Read the plan page, not a 2024 blog.
2. Sunrise: city and lake radio
Sunrise stays in the CHIP pack (1.13). In town, the gap with Swisscom shows on a speed test, not on Maps. Zurich, Geneva, Lucerne, the Lake Geneva shore: Sunrise is often the partner behind travel eSIMs.

In our Switzerland comparison, Sunrise is not rare. You see it on Airalo, Holafly, Saily, sometimes as a pair. The operator line on the plan you pay for beats the app brand.
3. Salt: city speed, shorter net
Salt sits between Swisscom and Sunrise at CHIP (1.12) and ahead of Sunrise on SpeedGeo download (108.5 Mbps). Handy if you stream on a Zurich tram or in a café whose Wi-Fi dies. Off the plateau, Salt weighs less than Swisscom.
eSIM listings name Salt less often than Sunrise, but Yesim, Roamless and some Orange Travel packs write it. Only hunt Salt if the provider writes it.
Which eSIM brand sits on which Swiss network?
The shopfront is not the mast. Airalo, Holafly, Nomad, Saily, Ubigi, Yesim resell capacity. Orange Travel often routes as roaming: the sheet can say “Orange” without naming Swisscom. A “Europe” pack can omit Switzerland, or land on a weaker radio than a country plan.

Three Switzerland itineraries, three network calls
Zurich + Geneva, 7 days, 10 GB. Almost any serious 4G/5G pack holds. Take one that names Swisscom, Sunrise or Salt, with hotspot if you share to a laptop. Sunrise is enough. Swisscom does not hurt.
Interlaken + Zermatt + mountain trains. Swisscom first. An unlimited plan whose daily cap is not published in GB is a trap: after the throttle, Sunrise 5G in town will not help in the valley.
Switzerland then Italy. Compare a Switzerland pack plus a small Italy one against a Europe eSIM. Regional wins on simplicity only if Switzerland is on the list. Otherwise you buy two plans. Measurable on both pages, not on a “30 countries” slogan.
How to filter Swisscom, Sunrise or Salt on the Switzerland eSIM table
- Operator column (Swisscom, Sunrise, Salt) before price per GB.
- 5G and hotspot: unlimited without hotspot is a phone plan, not a laptop share.
- Activation: first attach in Switzerland, or scan the QR at home. Install on Wi-Fi before Zurich (ZRH) or Geneva (GVA). Turn data roaming on the eSIM only.
- Apply the partner promo, then read the price you pay. Ignore the struck-through shopfront number.
