In short
An Airalo, Holafly or Orange Travel eSIM rides a Moroccan network: Maroc Telecom (IAM), Orange Maroc or inwi. Pick the network for the trip, then a plan that prints that name, not just a Morocco flag. Prices and the operator column sit on the Morocco comparison.
- Atlas, desert, south, off the imperial cities. Maroc Telecom. Compare packs that write IAM or Maroc Telecom.
- Marrakech, Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier only. Orange Maroc or inwi will do. Airalo, Orange Travel, eSIM Card on the same page.
- Morocco, then Spain or Tunisia. A Morocco pack plus a local one, or an Africa eSIM / regional. Check which Moroccan partner the regional uses.
- Compatible phone. Take an eSIM rather than plastic as soon as the listing names the network. Check the model in the compatibility tool.

The QR code does not radiate in Marrakech. Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc and inwi do. A travel eSIM is wholesale capacity glued onto one of those three. Between the medina and a camp at Merzouga, the local mast decides if Maps, Careem and translation hold. Not the app logo.
This ranks networks for a visitor, not a Moroccan subscriber. Showcase 5G speeds weigh less than a hole on an Atlas pass. Figures come from Opensignal’s April 2026 report (1 January to 31 March). Commercial 5G started in November 2025: the 5G footprint is still thin. eSIM partners move: open the operator column on the Morocco comparison before you pay.
What “best mobile network in Morocco” means here
Opensignal does not hand out one overall winner. In spring 2026, Maroc Telecom takes Best Network: download, upload, coverage, 5G coverage, consistency. Orange Maroc leads 5G availability (51.2% of the time) and games (65.6). inwi leads video (52.3) and reliability (815/1000). For a traveller, that city-centre 5G order is the wrong order.
| Trip rank | Network | Where it helps | Typical weak spot |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Maroc Telecom (IAM) | Best Network. Coverage 9.2/10, average download 27.5 Mbps, 5G download 280.2 Mbps. Atlas, south, stops off the corridor | 5G on less often than Orange Maroc (38.7% of the time) |
| 2 | Orange Maroc | 5G available 51.2%. Games 65.6. Time on network 95.5%. Cities and the coast | Coverage 7.8/10, behind the other two. Video 40.1 |
| 3 | inwi | Video 52.3, reliability 815. Coverage 9.1/10, very close to IAM in populated areas | Average download 22.8 Mbps. Named less often off the cities on eSIM listings |
Opensignal’s Coverage Experience scores where people live, work and move. Not empty dune square kilometres. A camp far off the tracks does not sit in that 9.2. Sources at the bottom.
1. Maroc Telecom: the safety net outside the imperial cities
Maroc Telecom wins Coverage Experience (9.2/10) and 5G Coverage Experience (0.41; 5G has only just arrived). That is the first test if the stay leaves Marrakech-Casablanca-Rabat: High Atlas, Dadès, Todra, Merzouga, roads toward Zagora. 5G download also stays with IAM (280.2 Mbps, well ahead of inwi at 198.5 and Orange Maroc at 136.6).
For a visitor, IAM means fewer holes between stops. Not the smoothest TikTok in a Gueliz café. eSIMs that name Maroc Telecom or IAM are the default as soon as the stay is not 100% urban.
Roamless, GigSky, Ohayu and some AbesteSIM packs publish IAM. That is not a forever contract. Read the plan page, not a 2024 blog.
2. Orange Maroc: city 5G, not Orange France
Orange Maroc (formerly Méditel) takes 5G on most often and the games score. Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Tangier, Agadir: Orange Maroc is often the partner behind travel eSIMs. Airalo often writes “Orange”. Orange Travel states Orange Maroc. eSIM Card, BambooSIM, VoyaSIM, aloSIM, Nomad, Saily frequently land on the same radio.
Orange Maroc is the local network. Orange France is the UK visitor’s home brand only if you still roam on a French SIM. Orange Travel is the travel-eSIM shopfront. Three names, one mast when the listing says Orange Maroc.
Geographic coverage still trails IAM (7.8/10). A medina-plus-coast weekend: Orange Maroc. A desert loop plus a pass: IAM first.
In our Morocco comparison, Orange Maroc is not rare. The operator line on the plan you pay for beats the app brand.
3. inwi: video and tasks that complete
inwi wins video and reliability. Handy if you stream on the Al Boraq or in a riad whose Wi-Fi dies. Coverage in populated areas (9.1) sits next to IAM. Off the tourist map, eSIM listings name inwi less than the other two.
eSIM Fox sometimes lists Orange, Maroc Telecom and inwi on the same pack. AbesteSIM and MicroEsim also publish Wana / inwi. Only hunt inwi on a tourist eSIM if the provider writes it.
Which eSIM brand sits on which Morocco network?
The shopfront is not the mast. Airalo, Holafly, Nomad, Saily, Ubigi, Yesim, iRoamly resell capacity. Orange Travel states Orange Maroc. An “Africa” pack can land on a weaker radio in Morocco than a country plan.
| Trip priority | Network to look for | Brands to compare | Promo code |
|---|---|---|---|
| Atlas, south, desert, long roads | Maroc Telecom | Roamless, GigSky, Ohayu, and Morocco packs that name IAM | ESIMC, ESIMP |
| Imperial cities and the coast only | Orange Maroc | Orange Travel, Airalo, eSIM Card, Holafly, Ubigi | ESIMP, ESIMP15, SIMP |
| Video, or a pack that names all three | inwi, or a written multi-network | eSIM Fox, Saily, Nomad | ESIMC, ESIMPNOMAD20 |

Three Morocco itineraries, three network calls
Marrakech + Essaouira, 7 days, 10 GB. Almost any serious 4G/5G pack holds. Take one that names Orange Maroc, IAM or inwi, with hotspot if you share to a laptop. Orange Maroc is enough. IAM does not hurt.
Atlas + Dadès valley + a desert night. Maroc Telecom first. An unlimited plan whose daily cap is not published in GB is a trap: after the throttle, Orange Maroc 5G in town will not help on the pass.
Morocco then Spain. Compare a Morocco pack plus a small Spain one against a regional eSIM. Regional wins on simplicity, often loses on radio in Morocco. Measurable on both pages, not on a “12 countries” slogan.
How to pick a Morocco network in eSIM Comparator’s table
- Operator column (Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc, inwi) before price per GB.
- 5G and hotspot: unlimited without hotspot is a phone plan, not a laptop share.
- Activation: first attach in Morocco, or scan the QR at home. Install on Wi-Fi before Casablanca or Marrakech. Turn data roaming on the eSIM only.
- Apply the partner promo, then read the price you pay. Ignore the struck-through shopfront number.
